A windmill turns into a new era...

In 1916 one of the most remarkable books about windmills ever written was finally published.
'Windmill Land' was the result of many years work and research for author Charles Allen Clarke. His had been a fantastic journey of discovery through the countryside around Blackpool and beyond in the north of England.

One of the windmills featured in the book, Little Marton, was actually given as a memorial to Allen Clarke by its last miller, Cornelius Bagot. It was later left to the local authority with the deeds stating that the mill and the surrounding land should become a museum as an everlasting memorial to the author.

In mid-September this year that objective was finally realised when the local Mayor, Councillor Mary Smith opened to the public Little Marton windmill which has remained empty for more than 40 years.

Shirley Matthews B.A (Hons), the author's granddaughter, said: "My personal fight, over many years, has been to open the mill as a major tourist attraction and historic building. This achievement now makes my family's dream come true."

Now Windmill Land has been republished by the author's grandaughter  as an eBook so that it is again available for all to read.

The original Windmill Land was published in 1916 and has become a very collectable book.
Some volumes have changed hands on Amazon and through bookshops specialising in rare titles for more than £140.
Shirley Matthews has now made the book available to all once again.
She said: "It has always been my dream to allow people to re-enter into my grandfather's world which is packed with amusing stories. Reawakening an interest in our heritage through his book is like allowing him his voice back."
